Overview

This article provides instructions on configuring the SYNERGIX AD Client Extensions Scripts feature to execute GPO Assigned User Logon Scripts or Domain User Properties assigned Logon Script.

The procedure outlined in this article specifically demonstrates the use of Group Policy setting to suppress the Windows command window when a Batch file or Windows Command Shell file is executed.

SYNERGIX AD Client Extensions software supports the execution of various scripts.  

1. GPO Assigned Computer Startup Scripts
2. GPO Assigned User Logon Scripts
3. Active Directory Domain User Properties / Profiles / User Profiles / Logon Script
4. VPN or WiFi / LAN Connection Script
5. VPN or WiFi / LAN Disconnection Script
6. Workstation Lock Script
7. Workstation Unlock Script 

 

The script files can be Batch Files, Command Shell Files, Kixtart Files, VBScript Files, Powershell, etc.  These script engines vary in their execution method and interaction with the Windows desktop environment.   SYNERGIX AD Client Extensions provides various options for each one of the scripts methods listed above to control the interaction with the desktop.

 

At times, it is desired that the scripts execute exactly in the same manner as the Windows operating system handles the execution when the user is logging in to the desktop interactively.  

 

The procedure outlined in this article specifically demonstrates the use of Group Policy setting to suppress the Windows command window when a Batch file or Windows Command Shell file is executed.

Procedure

1. Log into a domain computer with a user account that has privileges to modify Group Policy Objects in Active Directory. 
2. From Windows Start button, select Programs \ Administrative Tools and launch "Group Policy Management Console"  program or run GPMC.MSC.
1. If you are operating Windows 7.0 domain computer, you must have RSAT installed to start GPMC.MSC
2. If you are operating Windows XP domain computer, you must have Group Policy Management console installed.
3. Select the Group Policy Object used to configure SYNERGIX AD Client Extensions settings.
4. Right mouse click on the Group Policy Object and then, from the context menu, select EDIT item.
5. In Group Policy Editor, expand Computer Configuration \ Administrative Templates \ Synergix AD Client Extensions \ Scripts
6. Select "Execute User Logon Script" group policy setting.  Double click on the setting to bring up properties dialog box.
7. In the 'Execute User Logon Script' properties dialog box, check 'Run in command window'
8. Click on OK to apply the settings and to close the properties dialog box
9. Close Group Policy Editor
